Description
(Lafayette, LA) – Accordions, fiddles, guitars and rub-boards are among the music
instruments kids learn to play at Folk Roots summer camps in June. The camps in Opelousas
and Lafayette are geared towards youth ages 8 – 14 years old. Registration is at

The Lafayette Kids Camp is June 10-14, 2024, and the Opelousas Kids Camp is June 24-28,
2024, from 9am – 4pm daily. Daily activities include music classes, jam sessions, singing,
dancing, games, and folklife crafts. Tuition includes a camp shirt, daily lunch and snacks. A
music showcase and dance party for families is held on the final day of camp.
Participants are asked to bring a traditional musical instrument to Kids Camp. Loans of
instruments for Kids Campers are available through Folk Roots, Lafayette Public Library, or
local music stores. Teens ages 15-18 with traditional music experience are eligible to apply
for the Counselor in Training (CIT) team and tuition waiver.
