1997 was a banner year for banking in Louisiana. It was the year Louisiana returned to its community banking roots with the opening of The Bank, in Jennings and Iowa, the first new bank chartered in the state in thirteen years. Many market analysts view this trend as a healthy antidote to the huge bank holding conglomerates which have swept the country over the past two decades.
